DisCo DisCovery - Filing

This post ties in to Seth's The Altered Page, which ties to many, many, many blogs. These brave, awesome, chance-taking bloggers decided to take a chance on Seth's idea for a Disintegration project from the beginning of 2009. The putting our bundles outside was how I first met Seth.
The title of my DisCo piece is "Filing." Which probably has something to do with my current pressing issue of "filing" all my own paper documents. Another life-long attempt at tossing and re-organizing the paper in my life.

All the elements spent time outside, the book spent many months until it was "done". Time on a table, in the dirt, on a piece of wood, on a chair where I sprayed it with water many times to remove the live bugs and quite a bit of dirt.
I'm very happy with my work. The family - not so much. Somehow they don't understand ripping off the cover of a perfectly good book and putting it out in the snow, rain, bugs, dirt, etc. and then putting it back together again with some tags and newspaper that also spent time outside and calling it ART.

ok...this confirms that I HAVE GREAT TASTE in art, i LOVE your book, and ha!! i got to see and touch it in the neverland! and now, you've won the "people's choice" award, a FAVE of so many. yes, you capture "less is more", and "conceptual"ly present the essence of the project as well as clear reference to your personal life (organizing/filing/business,family,art) ... brilliant, raw, telling.

sorry, a little overboard in my commentary....thought i was siskel/ebert of the practicing artist world there!! you can delete me from your "files" if need be!! haha

Oh and you are part of the DisCo too! :) (Isn't it really a village in which we all live in this world?)
Your tags are wonderful! And I like the white paper too. Great piece of art.
Thanks for stopping by at my blog.
I use a photo programm that came along with my scanner: Photo Studio 5.5.
But you can do this with every photoprogramm that allows to use layers.

The disintegration on the book is beautiful.Filing is a perfect name for this.

Putting my own take on it, I can see it as the book being life, and the tags and papers being markers of important things that need to be pulled out again to be remembered.

I'm a bit far behind on catching up with the DisCo fever, but I'm totally impressed with what you have made from your bundle. What symbolism, even if it is misunderstood by some who don't understand this obscession.

I've been away and am only now getting caught up ... but I love this! It's hard when friends and/or family are baffled ... but following your heart is always the best route. I love the statement you're making about "filing." I could really get into filing if the goal were to have an outcome like this one - lol
