Arts in Education

My friend, Neva, shared this blog with me. Whatever your feeling on Rachel Maddow - what she says in this post from Jacob's Pillow is important to the arts education for our children - wherever they live and go to school.

I am always amazed when I see examples of tribal art. Most recently the aboriginal cultures of Australia. The urge to paint and depict and leave a testimony of daily life - even if all you have is a few sticks and feathers to paint with and a few ground up rocks for pigment. These cultures coincidentally have a very very strong sense of the importance of their children and the next generation and the care of the environment. And all without a lot of self analysis ... it just flows out of the people. We could learn so much. We who think we know so much.
